Today is Thanksgiving. With any luck, my turkey will come out looking like the picture in a Norman Rockwell painting. Just thinking about that painting brings up memories of holidays past and how you never really remember the food (despite the hours and days of preparation) but you do remember the pick up football games in the yard, or the time that a favorite uncle stopped by, or any number of other things that you did together as a family.

I think the countdown to holiday madness started today. It just hasn't felt very holiday-like up until now. There is also one less week between the holidays this year than there was last year so the time between Thanksgiving and December 25 will feel very compressed.

One of the things, okay it's not really a thing, that I am happy about this year is that I have finally gotten organized. With Tucker entering school this fall and all the extra demands on our time, it has truly been a lifesaver to know when and where I have to be and not have to worry that we are going to be late to something or forget an event entirely. My whole life I've been a 'shoot from the hip' kind of person and schedules were just not my thing.

It seems only fitting that during November we should pause and reflect on all the things that we are grateful for. Of course, there is family and there are our friends. We should also be grateful for health that we enjoy which allows us to live in this wonderful world and choose our own path in life.

It's getting to that time of year when I've got to begin thinking about my holiday shopping list. This year, for the first time, we will have teachers on our list since Tucker started Kindergarten in September.

Winter arrived over the weekend in the Midwest. The 'light dusting of snow' that was promised to 'not stick' turned out to be one inch of crusty snow that has pretty much eliminated any hope for a colorful and mild November. The family activities we so look forward to....

There are so many inspiring things all around us each day. We are always so busy that it seems we never get any time to just appreciate the little things. Especially this time of year.

If you're like me, then you start thinking about holiday preparations right after Halloween. This next 9 weeks will be amazingly busy and it is really important to me to have a workable schedule and a plan to get everything done. Can't let anyone or anything slip through the cracks!
